Reflection: Integrating MS Office Software to meet NETS

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) established the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS), in advocacy of the use of technology in the classroom to support and improve teaching and learning.

These mandated implications call for teachers to eradicate traditional ways of teaching and integrate contemporary methods of teaching.

The production software of MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, operates as aids in meeting these standards. These software allow the teacher to target the students’ different learning modalities: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. They also aid in comprising, analyzing, summarizing, and reporting students’ performance data.

The use of MS Office software integrates technology and is in accordance to the following National Educational Technology Standards (NETS):

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND
EXPEREINCES.

A. Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced
instruction strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.

Ex. A teacher might devise a power point presentation and project it on a screen to aid in
presenting educational material in contrast to the traditional method of writing on the
black board. Amenities include the capability of attaching/ imbedding videos via
hyperlinks and/or files and adding audio if desired.

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.

B. Apply technology to develop students’ higher order skills and creativity.

Ex. A teacher might demonstrate and familiarize students with MS Office applications, then
require students to themselves present research, ideas, data, etc. via Word or Power
Point. Designing a layout, adding color schemes, and fonts to make it visually appealing,
and finally have the student present to class.

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.

B. Use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate
findings to improve instructional practices and maximize student learning.

Ex. A teacher may utilize Excel to accurately and efficiently compile students’ grades to
compute individual and class averages. This logging could implicate how well a lesson was
delivered, (Did more students understand then those who didn’t and vice versa?). In
addition to this, Excel amenities allow for the teacher monitor intervention needs by color
coding students whose grades are above and below a given average. Also it enables the
teacher to graph clear results of findings and/or data.

Metaphors & Similes

Metaphors & Similes, are rhetorical devices that involve comparing seemingly unrelated entities as if they were the same. They help us to understand or reinforce the unapparent when compared to the apparent. You here them all the time! Post your best metaphor or simile . Give an explanation of your posting.

Here are mine:

" Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get" - Forest Gump
( Implies the uncertainty of life by comparing it to an assortment of chocolates.)

" An emotional roller coaster"
(Implies the inconsistency in moods. UP AND DOWN= HAPPY AND SAD)

"The early bird gets the worm"
(Implies the earlier you get started the better off you are.)
